What do you do that for….?

There are some small behaviours we notice about our cats that we find endearing but don’t always know what they mean.

Out of our group of four feline family members, one of the females (who can be quite easily startled) often scoops water out of the bowl to drink. It looks extremely sweet, but it’s apparently serving a purpose. Cats drink this way to be better able to observe their surroundings and make a quick exit should it feel necessary to them. Another possible reason a cat may be drinking this way is because the preference in cats is often moving water when sourcing somewhere to drink. By patting the water they’re obviously making it move, which makes it more appealing to them.

This makes me wonder what other small behaviours people have noticed about their own cats that actually mean more than they appear to. Feel free to comment some of the behaviours you’ve noticed to find out if there’s a deeper meaning behind them.

Reassurance or preference? The reason will differ for each cat...
