School portrait…
While looking through recent news articles about our feline friends, I came across this wonderful story.
Ziggy, a four year old ginger tom who lives in Flintshire, Wales often visits the school his two human “siblings” attend. In fact, it’s so common to see Ziggy there that when it came to the school photograph day, the photographer ensured a picture of him was sent home along with the other two sets. It was reported Ziggy needed no encouragement at all, and hopped up on to the chair to have his portrait taken.
The fact that Ziggy is so confident is a testament to how well socialised he’s been by his human family. And after a few failed attempts by the school to discourage Ziggy’s visits, it seems defeat was accepted and Ziggy comes and goes from there as he chooses. The headmaster even feels that Ziggy’s visits are helpful in teaching children without animals in their home how to interact compassionately.
The story made me smile for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it illustrates how determined cats can be to do things their own way. Secondly, it’s wonderful to read about a cat enjoying human company and dispelling the myth of the species being antisocial or aloof.
