Learning is love…
Recently, Netflix have added two programmes to their listings. Both focus on the behaviour of animals we’ve domesticated, and one of the programmes is predominantly aimed at children. To me, this is a small step forward in terms of ensuring species appropriate care is learned by the next generation before they take responsibility of an animal.
Cats are an extremely good example in terms of how important education is to care well for a feline family member. For example, for many years humans only attributed a purring cat to them conveying contentment. A number of years later, it was discovered that while purring can absolutely indicate that particular emotion in a cat, it’s also something that can be done when a cat needs to give comfort to themselves. I’m hoping to watch the programmes soon to see how informative and easy to follow they are. But the fact that they are even being made feels a positive and will hopefully encourage people to learn more about the animals that share their home.
