A little of what you fancy…..

I’m fortunate enough to have a friend working in an industry that means she obtains free samples sporadically of products that my cats may be interested in. She recently arrived bearing gifts for my felines, some of which were dried treats.

In the mix were the well-known “Dreamies” (with tasty chicken) and some heart shaped treats from Lily’s Kitchen; Little Lovelies. (Delicious chicken treats.)

I opened the Lily’s Kitchen treats so my Chief Taster could give his opinion and was met by the overwhelming smell of something that resembled a quality stock cube.  The Chief Taster in question (Chi) is usually extremely picky when it comes to dried treats, and these were a massive hit with him.

I opened the better known label and put a few down, which he sniffed and then wandered off without consuming. The smell when opening the packet was nowhere near as strong so I wondered if that was part of the reason for his reaction.

Checking the ingredient content was pretty interesting; The Lily’s Kitchen treats were stated to contain 42% chicken, whereas the Dreamies apparently contained 4%. That’s a substantial difference in terms of meat content and (to me) explained why one treat was more acceptable to Chi than the other.

There is a substantial difference, too, in price between the two products, with the Dreamies being available from around a £1 for a 60g bag and the Lily’s Kitchen treats costing almost three times that for the same amount. But the content does seem to reflect the cost.

Clearly, there are different factors when determining the best value for money with cat treats, and each cats taste is different.

But when you’re looking for a luxuriant present for your feline, I’d definitely go with the Lily’s Kitchen.
