I have only slipped away into the next room….a memoriam

Since I started this blog, there have been changes in the group. There’s been losses, and there’s been new arrivals.

Yesterday was a sad day, because there was an unexpected loss.

2018 has been an extremely difficult one in terms of health issues for one of the Mob family members. At the beginning of the year for Chi, there was the necessity for a dental and a bout of stress cystitis which he’d never had before. But the biggest shock was the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, because according to estimations he was quite young to be suffering from the condition. Because of his estimated age, it was decided to go to the route of radiotherapy. It was a long process, but Chi came through the other side and was starting to act more and more like himself. Yesterday, after showing signs of stress cystitis again, Chi was taken to the vets. Complications arose, and despite the vets best efforts, Chi didn’t make it.

The point to this blog post is to honour his memory by ensuring people know support is available if others don’t seem to understand the intensity of the loss you’re feeling. Cared for properly, a cat isn’t “just a cat”, they’re a member of your family and the grief you feel most definitely reflects that. Below are a few links to support services available to help process your feelings.

Grieving for the loss of a pet, whether through death or enforced separation, can be a sad and difficult experience. Life once filled with the love and friendship of a pet may suddenly seem very empty and feelings of despair and loneliness are not uncommon. Sometimes it helps to share these feelings with someone who knows from personal experience how distressing the loss of a pet can be, and who will listen with compassion and without judgement.
